The

Illuminators

Gathering

LIGHTING THE WAY, TOGETHER

Across independent schools, BIPOC and queer educators have long served as more than teachers, counselors, or administrators — they are truth-tellers, culture bearers, and bridges for change. Often navigating spaces where they are underrepresented, they lead with empathy, wisdom, and vision. They are, in David Brooks’ words, Illuminators — people who “shine the brightness of their care on others,” helping those around them feel seen, respected, and understood.

In 2025, we find ourselves at a crossroads. With the NAIS pause of this year’s PoCC, many of us are feeling the absence of a space that for decades has offered affirmation, renewal, and connection. And while no single gathering can replace what PoCC has meant to thousands, we believe we can still come together — in a way that is smaller, more personal, and deeply rooted in community.

That’s why The Loomis Chaffee School is honored to host The Illuminators Gathering: A Community for Educators in Independent Schools — a regional convening designed to carry forward the spirit of PoCC, while offering something uniquely warm, grounded, and resonant for this moment.

Join fellow BIPOC, LGBTQ+ educators, administrators, staff, and co-conspirators from independent schools across the northeastern region.
